Chapter 1-3 Complete

Well, I did it. It's taken three years to develop, and after a month or so of playtesting, fixing bugs, and getting everything working perfectly, I have 3 chapters of the game. I am re-opening the demo for anyone who wants to take a shot at playing and giving some feedback.

Story

The Daemos Chronicles takes place in an alternate world where humans are the minority, living amongst humanoid creatures that can transform into beasts of myth. Humans live together in a village with a marketplace, farmland, an academy, and a temple.

Graduation Day starts the morning of graduation, where the player’s character graduates from the Academy and is able to continue their education in one of the three factions of study: Monkship, Herbalism, and the Army.

After choosing their faction, the first hour of the game teaches the player about their chosen faction, game mechanics, and how to progress the story. Eventually, a mystery about rising undead leads the player on quests to explore their world and beyond.

Game Mechanics

  • Character Creation – Players have the choice to design a character from various templates and presets.
    • A total of 640 combinations are present.
  • Class System – There are three factions that make up the Academy, and when a player joins a faction, their class is changed for the appropriate faction – Monk, Herbalist, or Warrior.
    • Each class has its own starting stats and different parameter growth curves. Each class also has different tier levels of skills.
      • The Monk excels in hand-to-hand combat and magick (Taijentsu).
      • The Herbalist can use potions, buffs, and debuffs to turn the tide of battle.
      • The Warrior has high attack power and defense, able to take and deal great damage. Can equip, craft, and reinforce weapons.
  • Skills and Leveling Up – Each faction comes with its own Skill Tree. Players can unlock skills in their class Skill Tree by meeting the requirements. Some skills require others to be learned prior; some only have a skill point cost.

    • In addition to the class Skill Trees, two additional Skill Learn systems are in the game, scheduled to be setup the same way as the Skill Trees in the future.

    • In-battle, players can use basic attacks, class-exclusive attacks, and magick.
    • Most skills will have a cooldown period.

  • Mining – an expansion of the farming system, crystals and ore grow on their own in caves. Players can mine for this material, and their success is based on their farming level.
  • Marketplace – Players can interact with different merchants to trade for various items - potions and consumables, farming items, weaponry, and utility items. The economy of the marketplace is purely trade, and each merchant will have a list of items they will trade and what for.
    • I.e. the Blacksmith will trade a weapon for the carcass of a large animal, able to use bone material to create weaponry and utility items.
  • Quest System – A quest board in the marketplace will update with quests posted by villagers throughout the timeline of the game.
    • The first hour of the game contains three main quests to give the player practice in farming, trading, the battle system (enemies, skills, and drop items), and exploring the initial world/maps.
    • The story is currently moved along primarily by the quest system.
